Glacial Environments

Glacial environments may form part of a future ERGO phase or update.

The Scott Glacier, Alaska (top right) produces a coarse proglacial (in front of the glacier system) outwash fan towards the base of the snout (lowest end of a glacier). As the outwash fan progresses downstream the style of channels and bars is modified from coarser (boulder sized) sheet bars into smaller (pebble sized) longitudinal braided bars (as illustrated by the pale blue channels downstream from the glacial terminus) that eventually develop into sandy transverse bedforms and compound bars.
